Wild Animals (sort of)

Today we enjoyed the Los Angeles Zoo. It has been a long, long time since I have been to a zoo so it was a lot of fun. I had never seen a tiger, lion or eagle in person. I can check them all

What a beautiful creature. We still prefer Oshie.

This Lion had the right idea in the SoCal summer sun.

off the list now. Here are two of the photos. I am working with limited equipment so more will come when I get back to my main computer in NC.

Vacation

We miss Oshie but we are having fun out in California with family.

We spent Sunday exploring Catalina Island
The most fun I have ever had on a motorized vehicle.
Sunset on the boat back to San Pedro.

Spoiled

So Oshie had an exciting weekend. It kicked off with a trip to the groomer Saturday morning. He received the full treatment including a bath, haircut, nail trimming and anal gland expression. The last part is something I prefer to leave to the professionals. Not something I am interested in performing no matter how much I love my dog.

Cell phone shot so forgive the quality. Looking handsome after his grooming!

The rest of the day was spent being lazy and watching movies as it was way too hot outside. Sunday morning we got up early and headed out on our weekend morning ritual of a car ride and a trip to either Dunkin Donuts or Starbucks for some coffee. This time we decided to go with Starbucks. Oshie loves going on rides and hanging his goofy face out the window and into the rushing wind but what he really enjoys about these weekend trips is getting a treat. As I have mentioned in the past, Starbucks will give you a cup of whipped cream for free and they call it the Puppuccino. I always feel stupid asking for one but Oshie loves it. I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Enjoy this video of Oshie with his Puppuccino. (his stance kills me haha)

Lizard Hunting

Lately all Oshie does when we go outside is look for the lizards that hang out around the deck. He begs to go outside and then just stands around and looks for them. He tries to chase them but he just isn’t fast enough. Sometimes the lizards even use Oshie to escape. They jump down off the railings onto him and scurry down his body and sprint off and under the deck. He needs to stick to playing fetch.

Sand-Sational

I can’t remember if I mentioned this or not but I have been training to run my first half marathon in September. I am not sure what made me wan to run because normally I hate running if some kind of sport is not involved. Anyway, two weeks ago I convinced my wife, brother his roommate to do join me in an 8k beach race. I was more than ready for it and so was my wife and Scott (brothers roommate) but my brother not so much. It kicked is ass but in true Marine form he pushed himself through it and finished.

This is what happens when you don’t run Ethan!

We competed as a team and none of us were really concerned about time ( I was a little because I am always competitive). We did all finish together sort of ha-ha. I finished first with Scott a minute or two behind. I then circled back to run in with my brother and wife. Nancy hung back with Ethan to make sure he would be alright and partly because it was hot and humid and she just didn’t want to run fast. In the end we all crossed the finish line together and had a excellent time.

Best part was taking a dip in the ocean to cool off afterwards.

This was my first race ever!

So one race down and more to follow. Unless we find one soon, my next race will be the Marine Corps Half Marathon which is what started me on this running kick. At the moment I don’t plan to run a full marathon but I also had never planned on running a half so who knows. Happy running!
