Challenging Myself

So in order to force myself to be more active with the blog and work on my photography skills I have created a challenge. I need to post a new image to the blog everyday. It can be of anyone or anything and will be categorized as random photography so it all of the posts will be compiled on that new page which is available through the menu at the top of the site. The random photography posts will also appear on the main page of the site but the new page and category was created so that they will be available in one location to be easily browsed through.

My plan is to write something very short about each photo in order to maintain the focus on the photo itself. This is mainly to force me to practice and improve my skills and also to provide more content for anyone reading the blog to look through. So without further delay here is Random Photography Day 1.

A simple shot of the moon captured the other day. Taken with my Canon 7D mkii and Tamron 70-300mm lens at 300mm with some editing in Adobe LR.

Grass Itches

After rolling around in the dirt and grass Oshie developed an itch. Now that I think about it the fire ants could have been the culprit. With the warm weather we have had lately they have come our of their slumber and are everywhere in our yard. I don’t think that was the case though because I didn’t see any on him and he hasn’t scratched at the same area again. If you have ever been fortunate enough to experience the bite and sting of a fire ant…well then you know how itchy it is.

Enjoy this short series of shots of Oshie mid itch. I recently upgraded my camera to a Canon 7D Mkii and have been experimenting with the amazing 10 frames per second it is capable of shooting. My last camera (Canon T5)was maybe 3 frames per second. This is will be excellent for capturing action shots of Oshie to share on the blog! Enough rambling about Cameras, here’s Oshie!

I often wonder how that does not hurt.

Red Shouldered Hawk..I Think

Hey look! A post that isn’t about Oshie. So we have a few hawks that have been hanging around the neighborhood lately. I am not sure what has drawn them in but there are at least 3 different hawks that I have seen flying around or perched on trees in the morning. There is one hawk who always perches on the top of the same tree looking into the sunrise. He or she appears to be the biggest of the bunch and is the easy spot for me to try and photograph. I say try because the lighting is terrible at the time of day that they are out and my camera equipment is not professional and neither are my skills yet. Even with my Tamron 70-300mm at 300mm I have trouble getting a decent photo and to top it all off the little bugger keeps an eye on me and takes off any time I get within 100 yards or so.  Anyway here is the best shot I was able to get so far. Nothing special and I had to crop like crazy to make it presentable.

Ohh and Oshie could care less about the hawks.
