Spring is here and has been for a little while now. This is a peach tree in our neighbors back yard. Didn’t realize I had captured the butterfly and bee in the same frame until I pulled this image up for editing. Shot with Canon 7d mkii and Canon 400mm f/5.6L.

I have been meaning to share these photos on the blog for a little while now. I was fortunate enough to see the Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon and Drum and Bugle Corps perform last month here in NC. Here are a few shots I took that came out pretty sweet if you ask me.

So in order to force myself to be more active with the blog and work on my photography skills I have created a challenge. I need to post a new image to the blog everyday. It can be of anyone or anything and will be categorized as random photography so it all of the posts will be compiled on that new page which is available through the menu at the top of the site. The random photography posts will also appear on the main page of the site but the new page and category was created so that they will be available in one location to be easily browsed through.
My plan is to write something very short about each photo in order to maintain the focus on the photo itself. This is mainly to force me to practice and improve my skills and also to provide more content for anyone reading the blog to look through. So without further delay here is Random Photography Day 1.
A simple shot of the moon captured the other day. Taken with my Canon 7D mkii and Tamron 70-300mm lens at 300mm with some editing in Adobe LR.

The weather was awesome this past weekend so I decided to go to Wilmington North Carolina to walk around and snap some photos. It is about an hour away from where we live and it is very photogenic, has plenty of excellent places to eat and to top if off they were having a St. Paddy’s festival.
Well it turned out that the festival was rather small and that I am not that great at street photography. I guess that means I just have en excuse to practice more. So the trip was kind of a bust. I did get some delicious ice cream from a place called Kilwins. Some of the best ice cream ever. I was introduced to it while living in Maryland and am glad they have one in Wilmington. I also had a delicious steak at The George which is a nice restaurant right on the river that is dog friendly (just so you know). However dinner made me miss Nancy because I was eating alone which I have not done at a real restaurant in a long long time. The view and weather and a pint of Guinness however, aided in lifting my spirits.
I do have one photo that I decided might be worth sharing. It is of the Cape Fear River Bridge. I used the in camera HDR function that the 7d mkii has because I was curious and am still learning all the features it has compared to my old SLR. Generally I am not a big fan of HDR but after some quick editing and changing to black and white I thought it wasn’t too bad. Let me know what you think and as always thanks for stopping by.
Oh and next time I will take Oshie and do a little Golden Wilmington Portrait session ha-ha.
