Sand-Sational

I can’t remember if I mentioned this or not but I have been training to run my first half marathon in September. I am not sure what made me wan to run because normally I hate running if some kind of sport is not involved. Anyway, two weeks ago I convinced my wife, brother his roommate to do join me in an 8k beach race. I was more than ready for it and so was my wife and Scott (brothers roommate) but my brother not so much. It kicked is ass but in true Marine form he pushed himself through it and finished.

This is what happens when you don’t run Ethan!

We competed as a team and none of us were really concerned about time ( I was a little because I am always competitive). We did all finish together sort of ha-ha. I finished first with Scott a minute or two behind. I then circled back to run in with my brother and wife. Nancy hung back with Ethan to make sure he would be alright and partly because it was hot and humid and she just didn’t want to run fast. In the end we all crossed the finish line together and had a excellent time.

Best part was taking a dip in the ocean to cool off afterwards.

This was my first race ever!

So one race down and more to follow. Unless we find one soon, my next race will be the Marine Corps Half Marathon which is what started me on this running kick. At the moment I don’t plan to run a full marathon but I also had never planned on running a half so who knows. Happy running!

A few more shots of the little guy. Still no name, but my suggestion is Bergeron.

Day 35: Oshie’s New Cousin

My brother Ethan has added another dog to the family. Boston (his current lab mix) has a little brother and Oshie has a new little cousin. Meet the yet to be named 7 week old Chocolate Lab cutie. We just had to go see him as soon as we got home from work today.

Look at those eyes.

We brought Oshie and of course they immediately became friends.

He was tired from playing with the big dogs.

This little guy is afraid of nothing. He was barreling up and down the back deck stairs. He might end up being a handful. Good luck Ethan!

There are a few names on the table but if you have a suggestion leave a comment. Thanks!

Day 34: Cooling Off

Saturday afternoon was spent canoeing with Nancy, my brother Ethan, his roomate Scott and their dog Boston. Oshie and Boston seemed to enjoy watching us struggle with manuevering the canoes but they enjoyed the swimming even more.

Oshie loves the water but he has only ever been to the beach so he has never actually done any real swimming. He did well especially when we had the life jacket on him. When we took it off he struggled a bit but a few more trips to the river and he will be like a fish.
