On Saturday I had the privilege of participating in a Raptor photo shoot put on by the Cape Fear Raptor Center. The fee for attendance went directly towards funding the center which rehabs raptors from the area and all over the state. Unfortunately there are birds that are unable to return to the wild but life is not over for them. They become ambassadors for the center and are used for educational purposes and on occasion brought out to photo shoots.
The event had three raptors. Archie the Great Horned Owl pictured here, Nev a one eyed Red Shouldered Hawk and a juvenile Eastern Screech Owl whose name I don’t remember. Prepare to be inundated with bird photos!

Well believe it…
Couple of years back I went down south France to a place called Haute Königsbourg, they have bird of prey sanctuary. To see them in free flight was just amazing…
Loved every minute of it…

I can imagine. I have a few hawks that fly around my neighborhood and I can hear owls in the woods early in the morning when I go out for my runs but finding them is impossible. It was nice to finally see them up close and get some good photos.

We have one big hawk here in our woods, trying to spot him is near impossible. I only get a glimpse of him when he takes off and flies away… clever lad he is 😀
BTW how did you get on with the half-marathon… you never said !

I have no problem seeing the Hawks in our neighborhood but getting close enough for a good photo is the challenging bit.
I actually did a blog post about it. It went very well. I finished in 1:42:17 which put me 44th overall and 2nd in my age group. Not by for my first ever HM.

Oh no worries. I don’t expect folks to see every single post. I miss a lot of posts from the blogs I follow too. I appreciate you asking about it 🙂

Well you did pretty good though…
I just started training for the half distance, guess I will pick an international event like Brussels or the likes. The last one I did was in Dublin and that was brill 😀

Luckily the course was pretty flat although there were some light hills over the last 2 or 3 miles. The kind that normally wouldn’t bug you but 10 miles into a run they were no fun at all.
A Half in Dublin would be awesome! I will run more halfs but I have no plans for a full any time soon.

Yeah know what you mean… you’re pretty knackered and not looking for the additional pain 😀
Dublin was totally cool, great crowd and plenty of spectators along the course… amazing

Yes indeed the slightest breeze or hill felt immensely difficult.
I would love to run one in Dublin or anywhere overseas someday.
