Health Report

Last Saturday we took Oshie in for one of his bi-annual checkups. We generally don’t have any concerns and have been fortunate to have such a healthy pup.

He went through the gamut of vaccinations and blood drawings and we also had a small bump under his skin checked (too small to cut off and test so we are keeping an eye on it). We also asked the vet about his panting which he seems to do often. She said it could be related to a thyroid issue and they could run a test for us.

Of course we had that done and we received good news. Everything is normal on the thyroid front and Oshie just gets excited and hot easily (he does have a thick coat lol).

So we left the Vets office with an almost clean bill of health, Oshie is up a few pounds from his last visit so we need to cut back on his food. He also got some pretty purple bandages where they drew blood ha ha ha!

Happy even with purple bracelets.

Oshie and Reagan Fight Over Nancy’s Lunch Bag!

This video has been up for a few days but I forgot to share it here. Enjoy!

This one has been up for a little while too! We absolutely loved having Reagan stay with us! We miss the little guy!

Golden Retriever Fact of The Week #5

It is hump day and that means it is time for another Golden Retriever fact.  I have some facts about Golden Retriever height and weight for you this week.

Fact  of The Week

The Golden Retriever falls under the category of large breed dogs. Below are some height and weight stats for Male and Female Golden Retrievers.

Female Golden Retrievers have a healthy weight range of 55-71lbs (25-32kg) while a male Goldens healthy weight range is 65-75lbs (30-34kg).

Oshie pose.jpg
Oshie weighs in at about 73lbs which is a healthy weight for his size. He has a visible waist and abdominal tuck.

Female Goldens reach a height of 20-22 inches (51-56cm) and male Goldens height falls within 22-24 inches (56-61cm).

Of course there will always be pups that surpass these averages. Golden Retrievers love to eat so it is important that owners maintain a healthy diet with corrections portions and plenty of exercise to keep their Golden at the optimal weight.

Sorry I didn’t post a fact last week.

Reagan Is Back And Oshie Is Going To Be A Therapy Dog!

We are puppy sitting little Reagan for the week so naturally we have to include him in our videos! We love this little guy and it is going to be hard giving him back to his dad at the end of the week.

Also Oshie starts training to become a Therapy dog this Friday!!!!

Enjoy the video!

Golden Retriever Fact of The Week #4

Hello! I hope everyone is having a great week so far. I only have one fact to share with you this week. 🙂

Fact

Golden Retriever puppies are the absolute cutest thing you will ever see! Need proof, just check these photos I took of our new friend Reagan!

No he is not ours but we wish he was! He is from the same breeder and rumor has it that his mom is Oshie’s sister which would make Oshie his uncle. He is 8 weeks old and is already clear that he is going to be one smart Golden. He is also the most calm/chill 8 week old puppy we have ever met! Come back next week for more Golden Retriever facts!

How Oshie Greets Dad vs. Mom

Hello everyone! Here is a short video of how Oshie reacts when I get home versus how he reacts when Nancy gets home. It has been on YouTube for a few weeks now but I forgot to share it on here. Enjoy!

Golden Retriever Fact of The Week #3

Hello everyone and welcome back for another Golden Retriever fact. I hope you are all having as great of a week as we are.

I have two more facts to share with you this week.

Fact #1

Golden Retrievers are smart. I am guessing that you knew this already, especially if you own a Golden but do you know exactly where the lovable Golden ranks on the American Kennel Club list of the smartest dogs? Well on the top 10 list that includes breeds like the Doberman, Rottweiler and Labrador Retriever, the Golden comes in at number 4! I don’t think Oshie would agree with this ranking. Oshie thinks he is pretty smart when he tricks us into giving him treats.

Ranked ahead of the golden retriever (from 1 to 3) are the Border Collie, Poodle  and German Shepherd.

Fact #2

Golden Retrievers have a thick and beautiful double coat. This double coat protects them during any season. During the colder month the undercoat grows in and provides and insulating layer to keep them warm while the top coat provides water resistance.

Oshie has a beautiful coat. We brush him a few times a week to limit the tumbleweeds in our home. He needed a trim when this picture was taken.

A Goldens undercoat sheds seasonally. During spring, as the weather begins to get warmer, the undercoat will begin to shed. Regular brushing with an undercoat rake is the best way to control the shedding and keep your home relatively clear of golden fibers of joy. Most Goldens love the attention they get while being brushed and it is a great opportunity to check your pup over for and injuries or abnormalities and create a stronger bond with your furry family member.

I hope you learned something new or at least enjoyed this weeks facts. Check back next Wednesday for new Golden Facts!

Golden Retriever Fact of The Week #2

This week I have two Golden Retriever facts to share with you.

Fact 1: Golden Retrievers fall into the Sporting category of dog breeds. Some other breeds that meet this classification are Pointers, Setters and Spaniels.

Dogs that fall into the Sporting Group are alert, smart and very active. They are also excellent swimmers and can navigate through a forest without a second thought. Many of these breeds are still used for hunting. Being active breeds, sporting dogs require plenty of exercise and and plenty of space to do it in. Don’t worry, you can still own a Golden Retriever without owning a farm. Just make sure you have somewhere they can get plenty of exercise like a park, or hiking trails.

Fact 2: Golden Retrievers are very smart and love to please. The first 3 AKC Obedience Champion titles won were won by Golden Retrievers. According to the AKC:

“Obedience trials demonstrate the dog’s ability to follow specified routines in the obedience ring and emphasize the usefulness of the dog as a companion to humankind.  The objective of obedience trials is to recognize dogs that have been trained to behave in the home, in public places, and in the presence of other dogs in a manner that will reflect credit on the sport of obedience at all times and under all conditions”. ~American Kennel Club

So if you are just looking for a loyal and happy companion or a dog to compete or go hunting with, Golden Retrievers can pretty much do it all. Hopefully these facts were interesting and you learned something new. Come back next Wednesday for a new Golden Retriever fact!!

VLOG #1 Q&A

We have finally posted out first VLOG to Oshie’s YouTube channel. You can see it below. It was a bit awkward being in front of the camera so don’t be too harsh on us ;). We will hopefully get better as we do more of these. Also, sorry if the volume isn’t the best. It was our first time using this setup and I need to dial it in better for next time.
