Golden Retriever Fact Of The Week #6

Hello friends! We hope you are all having an excellent week and we are glad to have to back for some more Golden Retriever facts! The facts this week are not related to the breed itself, rather they are about a few Goldens who have exceptional skills!

Fact #1

On the 20th of October 2012 a Golden Retriever by the name of Charlie set the Guinness World Record for the worlds loudest bark by a dog! Charlie lives in Adelaide Australia with his mum Belinda Freebairn and set a world record bark of 113.1 dB during a Purina bark in the park event! According to the Guinness Website, Charlie still owns this record. See video of Charlie below!

Fact #2

There is another Golden Retriever that holds a Guinness World Record and he goes by the name Augie. The Miller family from Dallas Texas owns Augie and in July of 2003 he set the world record for the most regulation sized Tennis balls held in the mouth by a dog at one time with 5! Again according to the Guinness website Augie still holds this record. Impressive to say the least!

Very impressive. Oshie has trouble with only one.

Well that is all I have for this week! Check back next week for more Golden Retriever facts!

Oshie And The Egg Test

Golden Retrievers have a soft mouth. That might seem like a weird statement to make because when you look at a dogs mouth you see a big floppy tongue and a bunch of large hard teeth. What I mean by this is that Golden Retrievers are able to carry delicate items in their mouth without damaging them. This is one of the characteristics that makes them a great retriever. If you are a hunter you wouldn’t want your retriever to bring back a mangled bird would you?

We were well aware of this and had even heard the claims that they could carry and egg in their mouth without breaking it. Recently on social media we had seen a few videos of owners testing this on their beloved Goldies with success. Now we don’t doubt that they do have soft mouths but we wanted to see if Oshie was capable of completing this challenge. We suspected he might but were also prepared for him to break the egg.  Below is the video we made of Oshie attempting the challenge. He gave it his best ha-ha.

Enjoy!

The Face That Gets All The Girls

One of the great joys of owning a dog is seeing their personality as it develops. Their faces can be so expressive, especially their eyes. Oshie’s many different faces are a constant source of entertainment in our house. He makes strange faces when he hears noises from another room or when his ears are getting rubbed. He even makes faces when you say certain words or phrases to him like “do you want” ha-ha. I do my best to try and capture these faces so we can look back on them later an laugh.

Here is one of the faces he does often and it always makes us laugh. I think it is his inquisitive used when he is trying to figure something out like “why is dad sticking his camera in my face again”. Don’t you think this is a face that would drive all the girls crazy?

Oshie’s Day With The Marines!

Here is the follow up video to the last blog post about Oshie’s trip to work with Nancy. Oshie loves hanging out with the Marines and they love having him. His visit might not be completely within the rules (ha-ha) but it is definitely good for morale. I know I would have loved to have a dog hang out at my shop back when I was in.

I remember living in the barracks you couldn’t keep pets of any kind and you could go long periods of time without interacting with a  4 legged friend. For animal lovers and Marines that grew up with pets that can really suck. You also don’t realize how long it has been since you last played with a dog until you finally get to again.

It is pretty cool that Nancy brings Oshie to work every so often. I know he loves it and I know the Marines appreciate it too, especially when Oshie helps them take out the trash ha-ha.

Enjoy!

So Excited!

Every so often Oshie goes to work with Nancy and hangs out with the Marines. He loves going and they love having him. About two weeks ago she decided she would take him in on a Friday. I had gotten all of his things ready and when he saw them on the counter he knew he was going on a trip. Sometimes he is too smart. He knows when the harness/leash are out that he is probably going to be doing something fun. Below is the video of him in all his excited glory.
