Day 9: Monochrome

Today’s image is skyline shot from downtown Wilmington North Carolina. Kind of an Odd crop but I like the way it looks so I decided to keep it. Part of my growth as a photographer has been experimenting even if the results are not the best and also sharing those results to help build confidence in my skills.

Shot with my Canon 7d mkii and 50mm lens and processed in Adobe Lightroom.

Day 7: Macro Euro

This photo was taken using the Fotodiox reverse ring. This adapter allows you to take the 18-55mm kit lens and use it as a macro lens by mounting it on the camera body backwards. By doing this you lose auto focus, image stability and information from the lens in the photo metadata but the the end result is some very cool images.

The depth of field is super shallow and getting a clean shot takes a little bit of work. The best results I have seen using this adapter are from individuals who have taken many shots and merged them during processing. The reverse ring cost a only a couple of bucks so if you have a lens with a 58mm filter thread it is a cheap alternative for getting into macro. The other options include extension tubes and a full on macro lens. The extension tubes are affordable but can’t compete with the 9 dollar price tag of the reverse ring and even the cheapest macro lenses start around $100.

The image here is a single shot the using the reverse ring or an Irish Euro coin. Editing was completed in Adobe Lightroom. As usual this was shot on my 7d mkii and the lens was the 18-55mm Canon lens that comes with the rebel DSLR kits.
